CLD #863

As we've seen in past CLD's, there is an attribute called Middah Keneged Middah (measure for measure) that Hashem uses to operate this world. The Parshiot we heard in shul this morning were long and difficult to understand but there is one section that explains this attribute of Hashem in a clear fashion. The beauty behind is the fact that we can relate something that is divine and ridden from Hashem to our lives.

The Keli Yakar (a commentary on the Torah from 1,000 years ago) writes that there are three reasons seen in the Parshiot that show why someone gets Leprosy (this is just a way to categorize many diseases that we, unfortunately, have today in society). The three reasons are Lashon Hara (gossip), Gasut HaRuakh (pride, haughtiness), and the negative desire for money (not the need for money, rather the constant craving for money).

The justice behind the Torah is seen through what the Keli Yakar writes next. The Torah teaches that only the Kohen, someone from the lineage of Aharon, can come and state that the person with Leprosy is pure (after someone is seen with a sign of what could be Leprosy, they are taken out of the camp of Israel for seven days to check if it real or not and during that time they are considered impure until the Kohen comes and announces that they are in fact, pure.

The Keli Yakar continues to state the reasons why specifically the Kohen is the one who says the individual becomes pure: (1) because a Kohen comes from the family of Aharon who is known for his love and caring for every single Jew which is the complete opposite of Lashon Hara. (2) Another reason why specifically a Kohen is because Aharon, the great-grandfather of the Kohanim, states that he does not see himself as anything special nor worthy of anything in another place in the Torah (this shows the attribute of modesty which is the opposite of haughtiness and pride). (3) The final reason is that Aharon and his entire family come from the tribe of Levi and this is the only tribe who did not receive a plot of land in Israel. This is to counter the gossipers desire for money because when someone does not have a home or money, they can't express negative characteristic traits in regards to money.

G-d willing during these days before Shavuout, we will greaten love between each other, which also means avoiding Lashon Hara

Shavua Tov!
