In Tefillah (Amida) we pray by saying 19 brachot. As common Jewish knowledge explains, each Tefillah (Shacharit, Mincha, and Arvit) were composed by our Avot (Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov). From Gematriya we learn the love that Hashem has for the Yehudim who do Mesiroot Nefesh and go to minyan three times a day. Where do we see this? The word "Magen," which has a gematriya of 57. If one prays three times a day (Shacharit, Mincha, and Arvit=57 brachot) then Hashem Magen Alav (protects him). Also Hashem protects one who prays in minyan 3x a day by providing him with food, Ochel; which also has a value of 57. The word "zan," which we recite in Birkat HaMazon (the bracha after eating a kazayit worth of bread) also has a gematriya of 57. The word Ochel can be broken down into Chaf and Vav which equals 31 which equals Hashem's name of "Kel" and Aleph and Lamed, which also makes up Hashem's name of "Kel." We see that Hashem is in everything we do.

B"H May we have the koach to continue doing mesiroot nefesh and "Lirdof Acharei Mitzvotecha" (chasing after mitzvot), even though the reward is not instantaneous.

SHAVUA TOV :D!

The happiness of a real Jew is indescribable. Whether it’s the fact that he is secure because he opens his eyes and sees G-d is with him all the time or he understands the concept of “SheLo Asani Goi” or he sees that all the mitzvot are to his advantage, I am jealous. I had the zchut to be in the Rova HaYehudi for 3 and a half weeks and hopefully BH took advantage of every minute. I had the zchut to have my flight bumped and enjoyed an extra Shabat. And most importantly I had the zchut to get millions of tons of chizuk just by seeing what it means to be a Yehudi from the Yehudim of Yerushalayim. We pray every morning before we stand in front of Hashem in tefillah “Ashrei Ish SheYishma LeMitzvotecha Ve’Toratcha U’Dvarecha Yasim Al Libo.” Translation: Blessed is the Man who listens to all Your Mitzvot and Places Your Torah (Written) and Your words (Oral Torah) on top of his heart. This man is a man of Hashem, this man is the man of Yerushalayim Ir Hakodesh.

B”H May we all have the ratzon to feel spiritually connected to Hashem at all times, because it is not a zchut, its just a little more effort.

The Jr. Rabbi of the Old City told me last night that a Chozer B’Tshuva (someone who decides to take the mitzvot upon him/herself) is at a higher level than the holy kids of the Old City who learn torah all day from the age of 5. Why? Because a Chozer B’Tshuva has real challenges to face because he/she have tasted the lust of sin.

1.     If one sleeps after Chatzot HaLayla he should recite Birkat HaMapil of Kriyat Shma as follows: "Baruch HaMapil Chevlei Shena…"
2.     Since one cannot speak between this bracha and sleep, if one does then he does NOT have to recite the Bracha again. If someone is thirsty, needs to go to the bathroom, or has to speak for important things (such as shushing a baby), then he can recite SheHakol, Asher Yatzar, and help the baby sleep.

CLD #166

There are two possible ways of approaching Emunah. Through the simple, innocent way; or the research based way. Through the simple, innocent way to approach Emunah people follow mitzvot “because my father and grandpa and great grandpa, etc. followed the way of the Torah, too.” After much hitbonenoot and self-questioning, they reach the conclusion that there is no other way to live other than the way of the ancestors, the derech of Hashem. To these people its simpler for them to keep Torah and Mitzvot.
To the ‘researchers,’ this type of Emunah is shaky. They base their entire faith in G-d based on stories, seminars, shiurim, and the majority of these people do not wonder about nature/the world, ask questions or argue with rabbis to search for the truth (The Torah has nothing to hide, Hashem wants us to ask questions to reach a level where we’ll know that the Torah is solid stone truth).

Now, when it comes a time to choose between doing a mitzvah that is even a little bit out of our way, what usually happens? The innocent Emunah filled man says to himself: “My ancestors have died in the Holocaust and in past ambushes and executions for being Jewish and following mitzvot. It is obvious that getting up 20 minutes early to go to minyan is worth it.” The researcher says “I want to see proof now, I want a magical nes to happen just like the people from the stories I heard, I want an angel to drag me out of bed and into shul!”

Start thinking, because without hitbonenoot, or deep thought (no real translation), your Emunah is not worth anything.
Remember: small steps guarantee a finish line.

Story about the seriousness in regards to the desire of “Arayot,” or sexual relations (Taken from the book “Ki Tetze LaMilchama): The biggest talmid, the Rosh Talmid, of Eliyahu HaNavi had the yetzer hara’s fire inside him and ordered a Jewish Prostitute. After hearing who her client is, she went to observe his daily duties by his Beit Midrash and she woke up spiritually and realized she cannot let the relations happen. After several attempts, the client would not stop urging to act, and she physically threw him off her. Only after she did this did the Yetzer Hara escape from within the Rosh Talmid. A Bat Kol (spiritual microphone) came out of the sky and said they both received the zchut of Olam Haba.

Questions: what made the prostitute realize how severe this is? Why did she go see him in the Beit Midrash in the first place? How come did she decide to take it upon herself to end all relations with clients?

One Answer: The power of the talmid’s limud torah!

The story does NOT teach that someone should learn torah before hitting on a girl, rather realize that torah is much more thing than a duty.

Shabat Shalom. Stay happy, cuz G-d loves you.

Mangos, Oranges, Kiwi, Apples, Pears, Peaches, Plums, Dates, etc. all have many things in common, but one thing that gives chizuk is its klipa, or outer layer. In all these fruits, if the klipa is sealed, then the produce itself, the inside, is kept safe and can be eaten (after checking for bugs ;). When the outer layer has been damaged, the inside of the fruit itself becomes damaged; whether its by animals, insects, wind, rain, snow, etc. How does this relate to our lives? What does the CLD want from me now? A Jew can live in the outside world! A real Jew does not run away from the rest of society, but lives in it. There is a limit, but in the end of the day Jews make up a percentage of society and do not choose to be segregated. But again, there is a limit. Where do we see this? By the fruits. We use nature to expand our knowledge and further broaden our intellect in regard to the world and where we stand. Just like the fruit, who has an outer coating, or a protective shield around it, we needs to know our boundaries and limits. At the same time we do live in the community, but the only way we survive, the only way the fruit can still be eaten, is by its outer coating being sealed and complete. How do we reach this protection, this strength to survive in the world? Through the Torah. Even though at first glance the Torah HaKdosha may seem like a huge negative; in reality all the Torah is doing is sending us into the environment with an outer laying to help live to the fullest in the truest and happiest way.

Since Shabat is the center of the week spiritually, Wednesday starts off the week. So SHABAT SHALOM :D.

2.     Fruit that comes from a tree that has existed for less than 3 years is forbidden. Since we follow the teaching that we should “go by the majorty,” and we assume the majority is not from trees that are 3 years or younger, then we can eat fruits without being too worried.

What does it mean to be dead but alive in our world? There is a Din that occurs during the Tchiyat HaMetim (Resurrection). In Masechet Rosh HaShanah Daf 16 Amud Bet the Gemara HaKdosha discusses that there are three types of classes that a person is placed in during this Din. It says that Tzadikkim are related with Chayim, which is life. The Benonim (something like 50/50) will be seen as 50/50. The Resha’im are related with “LeAltar LeMitah,” or in simple English: death. What can we learn from this? That a Rasha, a person who does not follow the basic beliefs in G-d, mashiach, Tchiyat HaMetim, Olam Haba; is alive in this world but is really dead. Theres a very simple klal in our world: if you don’t follow the Torat Emet, it is impossible for you to take full advantage of the world and honestly feel fulfilled because our Neshamot come here to complete mitzvoth. Its simple.

Hashem gave us Torah and Mitzvot “Lezakot Otanu,” to make us feel privileged.
The reality is that with the Torah we live the happiest lives.
Ex. If you believe in Hashem then everything comes from Shamayim and there is no reason to be angry or upset. Ever.

CLD #162

In our world, we are trained to chase after money. (Note: of course we need to work and this is one of the ikarim of this world, but under certain conditions). The Ramchal ZT’L says that the entire foundation behind the relationship with Hashem and life in general is based on man asking himself what his purpose in this world is. Now, when someone looks at other people in the world, he sees that there are certain things that are eternal. Money, Food, Bodily Pleasures, Knowledge, Experience, etc. HOLD UP. How is money eternal? Food? Bodily pleasures? In reality, the only solid fire that stays lit in this world is the Limud Torah one experiences. A billionaire builds buildings all his life, chases after stocks, trades oils, gases, etc. All of his achievements in regards to business eventually becomes his life. All this, a.k.a. what now is his life, can be brought down in a matter of hours to ash. ON THE OTHER HAND a tzadik who has limud torah (minmum 2 hours a day- 1 hr by day and 1 hr by night) instilled in his brain cells, has his learning for eternity. And its not only to satisfy The Creator, our Father in Shamayim; its to be used to live the happiest life.

We need to glue this into our minds: the Torah way is the only way.

There are certain things in this world that we simply do not understand. For example: Kashrut and Shomer Negiya.
It does not make sense for us, especially in the generation that we live in, to not touch women. What is the big deal? If I give her a hug it will not lead to Eshet Ish (Chas Ve Chalilah!) or any of that!
Forget “modernizing” and fitting in society for one minute; for the last thousands of years there was no such thing as not following Torah and Mitzvot or touching the opposite sex or simply this wave of no shame in going against Hashem’s word. We have to understand that these things that are difficult to accept are things that spiritually hurt us. It is like saying “the sky is blue.” Non Kosher food and having relations before marriage and other things that do not make sense are all things that weaken us spiritually. And we do them because Hashem told us to. Period, no questions asked. AND AFTER WE accept that, then the understanding and logic sinks in.

IF IT’S SHABAT BY YOU PLEASE DON'T READ THIS!

SHAVUA TOV!

All this is mussar for myself also:

What if Hashem sends a txt to all the true Tzadikkim in the world and tells them : Olam Haba has been locked up, there is now a waiting room, and you are probably not going to get a seat, packed house, the parking lot is full, NO ENTRANCE, (you got the point), etc.
What will the Tzadikkim do?
To all of us, it is obvious that the Tzadikkim will immediately stop what they’re doing and follow their bodily urges and drop the Torah.
THIS IS WRONG. The real tzadikkim know that YOU ENJOY LIFE with the misgeret, or boundaries, of Torah. When a person really starts to paint his life with the Torah, he knows that with the Torah you live the ideal life. Its not by chance, its not “probably,” its fact, its stone, there’s nothing in this world that is better than a life that revolves around the Torah- we all need to glue this to our minds. I know its hard to accept, and I know its not easy to take in, but the truth does hurt, and whoever is somewhat religious (for real) struggles with this.
How about we all take 20 minutes of our entire lives and ask ourselves: Is this really the best that life can give me- I can go to Vegas right now, Buy me some physical pleasures and live like that all my life. How does some drasha on Kibud Av Ve’Em give me more pleasure?

Start asking, start thinking,

FOR THOSE SENSITIVE TO MUSSAR PLEASE DON’T READ:

Al Pi HaRav Tauber shlit’a:
The Gemara explains that Nevuchadnetzar (or Titus) desecratged the Beit HaMikdash. Even more so- he desecrated the Kodesh HaKodashim, which is where the schina rests (divine presence). What did he do? He took a zona into the Holy of Holies, took out one of the Sifrei Torah and had relations on the floor on top of the Torah HaKdosha. Hashem Yerachem.
Where do we see this today? (this is when the Rav got really into the dvar torah).  When one has a bad thought of znut (immorality), HE IS COMMITTING THIS CRIME! How? Your mind is connected with the Kiseh HaKavod (Hashem’s Chair in Shamayim)! Your neshama is the Kodesh Kodashim (Holy of Holies), and your body is like a Sefer Torah! When you have a bad thought its like you’re bringing in a prostitute into the Kodesh Kodashim and having relations with her!

As it says in mesilat yesharim, the entire purpose of this world is for us to gain the maximum pleasure. The Ramchal says in order to do that the Torah was given to us by Hashem (P.S. Matan Torah is in our parasha- Yitro). Rav Darmoni shlit'a explains that this world was given to us from the pasuk "Hashamayim Lamonai Ve HaAretz Natan Livnei Adam..." What does that mean? The Kotz Rebbe explains that we were given 'HaAretz' in order to raise it to be like 'shamayim'. Huh? Through the Torah and Mitzvot, one transforms everything from gashmi (physical) to ruchani (spiritual). When Hashem gave us this world, He is in fact telling us to purify this world and turn it into a place like shamayim.
Where can we see this? In the process of nature. When one plants a seed in dirt (domem) he forces the ground to step up higher by a plant (tzomeach) growing. Then an animal (Chai) comes and eats it. After we (medaber) shecht the same animal, we eat it and bless Hashem through Bracha Achrona so that everything is taken from its physical status and turned into a spiritual factory.

B'H May we wake up to understand that, just like in the time of Matan Torah there was absolutely silence besides Hashem's words, so to today we'll only live by Hashem's words.

CHAG TU B'SHVAT SAMEACH!
The Torah makes you think. It takes your mind and smashes it to pieces figuritively by forcing you to think. Some huge examples include a sugya (confrontational passage) from the holy Gemara, an explanation of a word or even a single letter in a pasuk from the Torah, or the logic behind a Halacha from Shulchan Aruch, and obviously many more. An interesting halacha is the one on mezonot. Let's view the beauty behind it: There is a general rule that if you eat 216 grams of mezonot (after you said mezonot already), then you need to do netilat yadayim without the bracha and then say birkat hamazon. Now, what if its ptitim (a type of grain, like rice)? What if its regulach/cake? Now look how detailed and beautiful the hlacha breaks down (stay with me here): If the food that has a bracha of mezonot (and 216 grams or more of it was eaten) was cooked through heat, like bread which is baked by heat (like cake, burekas, regulach) then you do netilat yadayim without bracha and say birkat hamazon. BUT if its like the case of ptitim (like rice) and was cooked by water (like rice) and 216 grams+ was eaten, then you say al hamichya because it does not resemble bread like in the case of cake/burkeas.

Look at the detailed point of view of the halacha. Now imagine the deepness on things like Taharat HaMishpacha that requires knowledge about the woman's body and nature in general.

BH May we understand how lucky we are that we can have in our hands the key to all intelligence, a.k.a. the Torah HaKdosha.

Always Smile, Cuz Hashem loves you :).

“I have many questions to ask his ‘holy’ self, Mr. Darwin. One of the questions I have is his understanding of the human mind. Can Mr. Darwin send me and the entire religious world a graph of the evolution of the Human Mind compared to the Apes Mind. In all honesty, nobody knows what the mind consists of.  Another question: Can Mr. Darwin explain how (not looking at a spiritual/religious standpoint) one organ can be used for two different things?! With regard to teeth: we need our teeth to digest our food and speak. With regard to the tongue: we need it to begin the digestive process and use our power to speak. With regard to our lips we need it to keep the food inside our mouths and speak. With regard to the saliva we have: we need it to breakdown the chemicals of the food we ingest and we need it to communicate.” The entire human race is insulted when Mr. Darwin compares us to the ape.

Our Parasha, Parasha Yitro, deals with the topic of Yitro, Har Sinai, Kabalat HaTorah, and at its base is the power of Shmiya, or hearing. When one hears something, the idea goes into the bones of the person. When it says in the Parasha “VaYishma Yitro Chotno Moshe,” a whole bunch of things can be learned. One is the connection of Yitro hearing and Bnei Yisrael’s action of “Na’aseh VeNishma” after Kabalat HaTorah. Yitro was great because after his role as “Cohen Midyan” which means he was the leader of midyan, the leader of the avoda zara in the land, the leader of all the impurity; he heard the news of the Kriyat Yam Suf and followed Ratzon Hashem and followed the path of the Torah. We see the complete opposite with Bnei Yisrael. Am Yisrael said “Na’aseh VeNishma,” we will do and then hear (comprehend). One view of this phrase (because there is an endless amount of explanations) is the idea that Am Yisrael have been hearing and learning Torah ever since Shem VeEpher. The Yeshiva of Shem VeEpher was a colossal place of torah learning that was passed onto the people who believed in Hashem before Matan Torah to Avraham Yitzchak and Yaakov. So of course Am Yisrael said we will do and then hear because they already have it in them to do the right thing!
Tip: What does it mean to do the right thing? Gematriya of Yetzer Hara is 575. The only way to beat the Yetzer Hara is with all your Koach (Gematriya = 28). When we use all our Koach, 28, we will throw down the Yetzer Hara and be able lekayem the (575+28) 613 mitzvot.

B’H May we have the zchut to understand that all nisyonot come from shamayim to build our characters and make us better people.
