CLD #862

VaYikrah 14:4
וצוה הכהן ולקח למטהר שתי צפרים חיות טהורות ועץ ארז ושני תולעת ואזוב
"...and the person to be cleansed shall take two live, clean brids..."

One of the beauties of the two Parshiyot Be'ezrat Hashem that we will be reading in Shul this Shabbat, Tazriah-Metzora, is the Rashi that speaks about this Pasuk. The Pasuk explains that the kohen will receive two birds as the sacrifice for an individual who received leprosy (after he was healed and it went away). Rashi explains that BIRDS are given as the sacrifice in the alter because they have a direct connection with the reason the individual received this leprosy.

Every single thing that happens to us, whether we like it or not, happens as a result of our actions. Hashem judges us as we judge others. Middah Keneged Middah (measure for measure). Why does an individual receive leprosy? The answer is directly seen in Rashi, where he says that when an individual talks trash, gossip, Lashon Hara, Rechilut and uses their mouth for impure things such as these types of speech, they MUST bring BIRDS. Why birds?

Birds chirp non stop. As we even see in the social media network, Twitter, the bird was used as the logo because birds always chirp and make pleasant noises in nature. However, what people chirp about is sometimes NOT the most pleasant thing. And for this reason the Torah teaches us that a kohen has to accept the birds from an individual who received leprosy (because of their gossip talk).

Baruch Hashem, there is no such thing as coincidence and we are currently in a time of Sefirat HaOmer (today is the 17th day of the Omer) which is a time we stress unity and brotherly love between man to man. For this reason we need to strengthen our "mouth guards" from speaking trash about others, because when we gossip or speak badly about another we are stating "I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT PERSON!" And for the lack of respect the 24,000 TORAH SCHOLARS had for eachother it caused them to have the punishment of death! Therefore we see its NOT a joke to speak. Your mouth is a key to life and death (as says Shelomo HaMelech in Mishlei)!

Shabbat Shalom!
