The Malbim on Megillat Ester in regards to the first event
of the sotyr of Purim brings down a beautiful explanation of why the first
event is even written down. After all, according to the Gemara in Masechet
Megillah, the Sages explain that Ester and Mordechai knew that every word
written in the Megillah will be eternal and will stay in every Jewish
community! It is simple knowledge that every word that was written down in the
Megillah was thought through on a serious level before the ink touched the
paper.
Therefore, if one looks at the event of Achashverosh’s party
that lasted 180 days alone, it does not make sense why Ester and Mordechai
would include that in the story of Purim. However, this is the essential point of Purim! Why? Because
the Malbim explains that every Jew must believe that every single
story/situation that occurs in their life does affect him/her in every single
way. For example, if it wasn’t for Vashti’s rude attitude problem that caused
her death, Ester would have never made it into the kingdom! Achashverosh would
never command the thousands of young women to pass along through his castle
ending up in meeting Ester and falling crazy in love for her.
A key distinction between a Jew and Amalek is the belief
that everything in our life happens for a reason and something that happened in
the other part of the world DOES affect me and my spirituality. This comes to
strengthen us in regards to the Torah learning that goes around the world. When
one Jew learns Torah this piece of Torah stands as a merit for him and for the
world’s existence. Also this teaches us that the meteor in Russia was not some
coincidence. We must believe that it was sent by Hashem specifically to Russia
to make them wake up (maybe to show them that funding missiles to the countries
that hate Israel does not go smoothly with Hashem?).
In any case, these days before Purim should be focused on
the extra effort we should put in our Avodat Hashem (service of G-d) and
overall belief that every tiny detail in my life is controlled by Hashem!
