One of the books that we are giving out from theCLD’s
previous Fundraising Project is called The
Garden of Riches, a translated version of Rav Shalom Arush’s Gan Ha’Osher. Rav Arush speaks about the
concept of spending money in general and the importance of giving money to
one’s wife in order to spend on whatever she wants because the livelihood of an
individual rests upon the behavior he presents to his wife. Why? Because the
way one acts with his family: his wife and children is the way Hashem acts with
us.
What does this have to do with the special Shabbat that is
coming before us, Shabbat Shekalim and what does it have to do with PURIM? The
powerful ‘characteristic trait’ of Hashem is middah keneged middah, measure for measure. For anyone who delves
into the world of Torah Learning (Talmud Torah) they realize that Hashem
manages the world this way to the last drop of water in the last cloud after a
rainstorm (snowstorm*)! In the story of Purim the evil Haman took THOUSANDS of
SHEKALIM and bribed Achashverosh (who only cared about cash money just like
every government in the world) to get his signature on the papers that would
sign off the plan to kill all Jews in the world.
What did Hashem do? In the Holy Torah He instructed Moshe
Rabbenu to call upon every Jew to donate Mahatzit
HaShekel (a Half Silver Coin) so thousands of years later when Haman
offered Achashverosh the money THE PLAN WILL NOT GO THROUGH! Sometimes we do
not know why something happens or why we do certain Mitzvot, but we do know
that Hashem does everything FOR A REASON and for our OWN BEST. Therefore, when
doing mitzvot we should accustom ourselves to do them with a smile
because it is obviously for our best. Be’ezrat Hashem we shall have the
koah (strength) from shamayim to continue in our Avodat Hashem (service of
Hashem) and be examples for the entire world by fixing our own character
defects and negative traits.
Shabbat Shalom!
Remember: its Shabbat
Shekalim!
