Translated from Yalkut Yosef:
1. The Segulot
(practices) that one can do to strengthen his/her Yirat Shamayim (Fear of Heaven) are: to place him/herself in Shuls
and Batei Midrash (Torah Learning Centers), to ask Shalom of people (ask how they are doing), to be cautious to do
the Mitzvah of Mipneh Seva Takum (Standing
before Older/Wiser People), to give Ma’aser
(10% of your profit to Tzedaka), to learn Torah everyday, to act in a modest
fashion, to have in his/her home Sifrei Halachot and Mussar (books of Jewish
Law such as The Code of Jewish Law – The
Shulhan Aruch and books of
rebuke such as Mesilat Yesharim), to
think about eating the food on Shabbat for
the sake and respect of the Shabbat, to lessen one’s words in general and
greaten their silence, and finally to pray that Hashem helps them to strengthen
their Fear of Heaven.
2. It is already written (in the first se’if, sub-chapter, of the first chapter of Shulhan Aruch) that one
who is involved in the Mitzvot of Hashem should absolutely not be embarrassed
from those people who are discouraging/insulting him/her, however; one should
refrain from fighting/arguing with these individuals. One should refrain from
getting used to the middah
(characteristic) of cruelty, azut,
which is greatly discouraged even if used in the right way.
