KOL HASHONEH HALACHOT BECHOL YOM MUVTACH LO SHE’HOO BEN HA’OLAM HABA

From Yalkut Yosef:

1. Tonight is Hoshana Rabah. Therefore, we have the minhag to stay up the entire night and learn Torah. After Alot HaShahar (Dawn: 5:37am Queens, NY) one should do Netilat Yadayim without the Berakha of Al Netilat Yadayim and continue saying all the berakhot of Alot HaShahar with Birkot HaTorah. In a case where one did not sleep the entire night, they should only say Birkot HaTorah after Dawn. One who says Birkot HaTorah before dawn says berakhot (G-d’s name) in vain.

2. The Lulav and the other species with it, including the aravah after hitting it on the soil, are called tashmishei mitzvah (‘tools’ used for a Mitzvah) and therefore may be thrown out. However, in any case we have the minhag to avoid bringing shame, discredit or disgrace to these species by throwing them on the floor so people can step on them. Rather, one should gently place these species in a public area where they won’t be ruined.
