For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L, Yissachar ben Yona ZT’L and Haviva bat Yocheved Z’L.
Rav Shimshon
Pinkus ZT’L speaks about Hoshanah Raba as THE DAY that we are all really
waiting for. Why? Because as stated before, Hoshanah Raba is the day when the petakim
(sealed and signed envelopes with our decree for the upcoming year) are
sent out and DO NOT RETURN. This means that tonight is our last chance
before the decree is sent out for the next year to come.
But let’s
look at the real meaning behind tonight, after all it’s the 51st day
after Rosh Hodesh Elul and the 7th and final day of Sukkot! Each day
in the past 50 days was supposed to be a day of reflection of our actions, it
was supposed to be a day of sacred thoughts of how we can and WILL CHANGE for
the better. How we believe in ourselves to take that next step and actually take
it. We all know where we need to grow and develop and channel our energy and
capability to rise up spiritually.
Hoshanah
Raba is the best time to show Hashem that we are ready and we did change. Here
we are going to sacrifice a single night out of our intense month and a half of
prayer, learning and growth to learn Your Torah so You can COMPLETELY forgive
us for EVERYTHING that happened last year. Also, tonight is the 7th night
of Sukkot. As known to almost everyone who has a Sukkah in their home, each day
of Sukkah another guest comes into our Sukkah to celebrate with us. Tonight,
the 7th night, is the night for David HaMelech, representing
Kingship, Malchut.
David
HaMelech is the great grandfather of the Mashiach, the Messiah that will be King over the
entire Jewish people in the days of the Redemption soon in our time (Geula). Therefore, tonight
it is a symbol of making Hashem the King over us by surrendering all our needs
and wants to Hashem to really show that He is The King of the world so He can bring the Mashiah to rule over us. Also
Hoshanah Raba, as stated by Rav Pinkus ZT’L is the day of the Aravah
(the specie in the Four Species that respresents the Lips). Why? Because
Hoshanah Raba is the day where Hashem kisses us and forgives us for everything
this entire year, yishakeni mineshikot pihu (Shir HaShirim). Tonight we also smack the Aravot on the ground, representing the obliteration of our past sins.
BH May we
have a successful Hoshanah Raba with real intention in our Tefillah for
spiritual success, physical health, and overall success this year!
