For the Ilui
Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel For the Refua Shlema of Yaakov Hai
ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. A Jew that told a non-Jew on Shabbat to do certain melacha (action that is prohibited on
Shabbat) may not benefit at all from that action. Therefore a non-Jew who
turned on the light in the room for a Jew, even though the Jew did not ask the
non-Jew, the individual may not benefit from that electric light unless there
was light in the room from beforehand (open window with light coming in).
2. When a non-Jew turns on the light in an apartment
building hallway or staircase for a Jew on Shabbat, the Jew may walk up the stairs
and the Jew does not need to wait until the non-Jew turns off the light because
with or without the light the Jew was able to walk up the staircase. Even if
the light was turned on by a Jew who desecrated the Shabbat, the Jew can still
walk up the stairs but he/she cannot walk in a hurry.
Shabbat Shalom!
