For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L & Yissachar ben Yona Z’L.
NOT A SIMPLE CLD, BUT IF YOU FOCUS YOU WILL
GAIN A LOT!
In Masechet Hagigah towards the end of the Gemara, there is
a piece of Torah that discusses the laws of Tumah
and Tahara that apply in the times of the Bet HaMikdash. During these times
anything from clothing to vessels, such as ur cups and plates, to any type of
item can receive tumah (impurity).
Meaning in order to purify (make these items tahor), one needs to dip them in a mikveh.
The Gemara on Page 22b discusses a certain type of law that
says if you put two vessels one in another there has to be certain rules for
both to be tahor (pure) after being
dipped in the mikveh (certain amount of rain water in a single place). In the
end of the Limud (learning), the Gemara teaches that only when the larger
vessel holding the smaller vessel is tameh
(impure) then both vessels become tahor (pure) after being dipped in the
mikveh.
However, if the big vessel (outer vessel) that holds the
smaller vessel is tahor (pure)
already from beforehand, the vessels that are together (like Russian dolls) are
not in the level of tahor, even after
dipping them in the mikveh. There are many reasons the gemara brings down to
this law, but we can also learn a great deal of very practical Torah for us
today.
When one is on the level of leadership, or when one has a
great influence on others and he/she is “tameh”, meaning they do not go in the way of
the Torah and Mitzvot and just look to ‘relax’ and live the ‘free’ life they
can change the world. How? If they take a small vessel and dip in the mikveh,
just like the law from the Gemara. What do I mean? If someone is a leader and
influences the group for the bad and DECIDES to take a 180 degree turn and do teshuva and begin following Torah and
Mitzvot, ONLY THEN do they come out with the people they influence (the ‘small
vessels’) and are both made tahor
(pure).
But if someone is already pure, even if they have a great
influence on people, it is much harder to influence others to choose the path
of Torah and Mitzvot. Be’ezrat Hashem may we only look at the good in everybody
and choose a life that is delicious in Torah and Mitzvot, because in the end of
the day that is the happiest and most fulfilling
life.
