For the Ilui
Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel For the Refua Shlema of Yaakov Hai
ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. One should be cautious to wear clothing that the public
will not be offended by, as it says in Pirkei Avot (3:10) He who in whom fellow people find no delight, in him the G-d finds no
pleasure. This individual’s Tefillah (prayer) is also not accepted before
G-d. Therefore, one should watch out not to wear clothing that is inside-out,
even underwear and undershirts that no one can see because wearing inside-out
clothing causes weak memory.
2. One should also be cautious not to wear clothing that
generates bad scents, and he/she should act in a normal manner, especially Bnei
Torah (Yeshiva students) where they need to watch out not to bring a bad
reputation to Beni Torah as a whole. The Rambam writes that the dress of a
Talmid Hacham (Torah Scholar) is pleasant and clean, and it is forbidden for
him to have a stain or the like. The clothing of a Talmid Hacham must be
average clothing that is pleasant and respectable.
