CLD #702

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L & Yissachar ben Yona Z’L.
The Subway is a great place where one can get closer to Hashem. As known from many CLDs, we can learn a lot about the psiritual world and overall Avodat Hashem (service of G-d) from the physical world. For example, if we look at fruits we can see that every fruit has a peel to it because the goodness is always covered. Whenever you have something good you should always cover it, be quiet about it, keep it in secret so no Ayin Hara (evil eye) harms it.

The Subway is another example where we can see something and relate it to the spiritual world. As we know in the tri-state area, the subway is a great link to use to transport ourselves from place to place in a cheap way. We have local and express trains, trains that go from Brooklyn to Queens, Manhattan to the Bronx and in the boroughs themselves. The focus of this CLD is the difference between Express and Local trains. In order to get to the final destination, everyone wants to use the express way. Why not get there quicker and easier?

The Express way in Judaism is following the Torah, especially the more difficult things. For example, one of the obvious ways of a Jew is being shomer negiyah, avoiding contact with the opposite sex. This is an express route to reach spiritual bliss. Why? Whenever there is physical touch there is confusion. One cannot control his/her desires without Hashem’s help, therefore it is clear to keep the physical on a constrained level and keep shomer negiyah. Another example is eating Kosher food, keeping Taharat HaMishpacha (no marital relations for 2 weeks), watching one’s eyes, etc.

Sometimes we think keeping Torah and Mitzvot is like taking the Local train but in reality it is the best express train there is because after we follow the core basic principles of Judaism it is much easier to work on oneself and reach the ultimate characteristic levels. In the end of the day it is all about having Ma’asim Tovim (good deeds and good characteristics) and Limud Torah (proper Torah learning). B’H we are starting the Torah again with Parashat Bereshit, this is the time to start a new chapter in our lives of success and building the blocks for our future using the express track.
