For the Ilui
Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel For the Refua Shlema of Yaakov Hai
ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. The way of zerizut
(speediness) and nekiyut
(cleansiness) is to make sure one goes to use the restroom in the morning and
evening before all tefillot (prayer times). Whoever refrains from using the
restroom when they need it, they violate the Mitzvah of Bal Teshaketzu (You Shall Not
Make Yourself Abominable). Therefore, if one needs to use the restroom,
they should not be hesitant, rather they should go to the restroom immediately.
If one also is lying in bed in the middle of the night and sees he/she has the
need to use the restroom, they should not be lazy and stay in bed. One should
also do Netilat Yadayim (wash their hands) to say the Berakha of Asher Yatzar after using the restroom.
2. There is no issur
(prohibition) to hold in gas. Therefore, one is allowed to hold in gas in a
place where people are present, especially when it would cause them embarrassment
or cause any sadness to others. One should also be careful when wearing
Tefillin not to pass gas. If one cannot hold it in they should move their Tefillin
from the appropriate spots (meaning make them crooked) and afterwards put them
back in place.
