For the Ilui
Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L, Yissachar ben Yona ZT’L and Haviva bat
Yocheved Z’L.
Sukkot is a
time of reflection. What did I get done the last 2 months? How was my Hodesh
Elul, Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur? How can I make the rest of Sukkot better? What
can I use to give me strength to work on myself as a Jew and as a human being
in my service of Hashem, in my Avodat Hashem?
The answer
lies in the Araba’at HaMinim (the four species) we shook this morning in
our Sukkot in Shul. The Arbaat HaMinim have power to bring down spiritual shefa
that is the most positive spiritual energy and force into the world. But on a
simple level, what do these four kinds of produce represent? The Lulav, the
tallest, represents the spinal cord. Rav Yoshiyahu Pinto shlit’a explains that
the spinal cord of every Jew is Limud Gemara (the learning of Talmud).
When one learns Talmud they clear out any spiritual filth that has entered
their thought process and rise a step higher to think like a Jew. Also with
every difficulty they experience by learning (because its not easy), the individual
strengthens their ‘spinal cord’ to be able to face tough life obstacles.
The next
important specie is the Etrog, which symbolizes the heart. The heart of the Jew
is what Hashem wants the most, the will, the want, the desire should be focused
to Torah and Mitzvot. Why? Because it’s the best for us. Rahmanah Libah Ba’ei
(Hashem: the Heart He wants). When the heart and the brain have the same wants
and desires there is nothing that can stop you from succeeding!

B’H we
should only work on ourselves to reach higher levels of spirituality, simha,
and create an atmosphere around us of growth and accomplishments!
HAG SAMEAH, MOADIM L’SIMHA!
