CLD #672

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L, Yissachar ben Yona ZT’L and Haviva bat Yocheved Z’L.
It says in Kohelet, Perek Tet: At all times, let your garments be white, and let oil not be wanting on your head.

Shlomo HaMelech explains to us a deep concept regarding living a life of a Jew. Shlomo HaMelech is the smartest man that ever lived. With the wisdom that Hashem passed over Shlomo, no man will ever reach his knowledge. Obviously everything Shlomo wrote has deep meaning behind it that connects to everything the Torah teaches

A concept in our lives is staying pure at all costs. This is something that we Jews revolve our lives around: Purity, Sanctity, being an example of Hashem’s attributes, living a life of modesty, etc. This Pasuk written by Shlomo shows us we need to constantly at all times make sure our clothing is white.

On a simple basis, everyone gets the point. Stay clean and pure. But on a slightly deeper level what does my garment have to do anything? Shlomo could have just said “at all times be white” or “at all times be pure.” Our Neshama (soul) is like a garment and we constantly need to live this life making sure we do not get it stained. And even if we do get it stained with the most horrible sins, Hashem still hears our tefillot (prayer) and accepts our Teshuva.

Also there is a connection with what we wear physically. It says in Tehillim that a woman should wear mishbetzot zahav (settings of gold), which is a hint to tzeniyot (modest clothing). Also in Tehillim David HaMelech (the composer) wrote that Hashem is the only one in all the worlds that can “wear the garment of ga’ava (self pride),” which means that man cannot wear any form of self-pride. This directly links to Hodesh Elul wear we must continue working on our middot (characteristics) even more. We are two weeks away from Judgment Day > Rosh HaShanah.

Stay modest, stay pure, smile.
SHAVUA TOV!
