For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L, Yissachar ben Yona ZT’L and Haviva bat Yocheved Z’L.
If the light
is still on, there is more we can fix: the opportunity of doing Teshuva and returning to Hashem is constantly in your hands. This kelal (concept) is key in
living a life with Hashem. The yetzer hara (evil inclination) always enters our
thought process and convinces us to do small sins until they greaten and
greaten and boom we fall into a pit of sin with a feeling of disgust, betrayal
and overall sadness! Hashem does not want that to happen.
Only after
this happens, G-d forbid it shouldn’t, one only begins to appreciate Hazal and
all they told us. People today always throw around the words of Hazal (our Holy
Sages) like it doesn't mean anything and think they are strong in regards to
kedusha (purity). We think we can do whatever we want and stay with a Jewish
mindset, and we don’t know how much the smallest image affects us.
Let’s look
at a scenario. It’s a cloudy day and a rainstorm is pulling into the area. The
rainstorm is so bad that if any planes take flight the chances are high that
the planes’ electronic system will be ruined and the pilot will not be able to
land the plane. If the system that tells airports the weather fails and shows clear skies and normal forecasts for the next couple of hours (when a rainstorm is on the way), how
much will that affect the pilots and the communicators?
The same
goes for viewing images that are prohibited for our holy eyes to see. Images of zenut
(prostitution), kefira (anything against Hashem) or any type of Lashon
hara (gossip) cause a cloudy image for ourselves to see the truth. Why is it we
have such difficulty in understanding Jewish concepts? Because we fill our minds
and our viewpoints with irreligious things. Everything in our bodies work
together with our spiritual side as well. Therefore, we must stay mentally holy
to understand spiritual things.
Elul is less
than a week away. Be’ezrat Hashem (G-d willing) we will be hearing many Shiurim
(classes) on Teshuva (repentance), Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, Selihot, etc. In
order to understand these concepts we must mentally and physically take action to enter a holy setting. Hashem is asking us: Where are you in our life and why is your goal NOT to get closer to me?!
Judaism=Think.
