L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester ZT’L and Moshe ben Amelia Z’L.
From Yalkut Yosef:
1. It’s a Mitzvah Derabanan (decreed from the Rabbis) to do netillat yadayim (washing the hands in a certain way) before eating bread. Even though this is a Mitzvah from The Rabanan, we say a Beracha after the Netillah (washing), Asher Kedishanu BeMitzvotav VeTzivanu Al Netillat Yadayim. One should be very cautious with Netillat Yadayim because all who are disrespectful to this Mitzvah reach poverty, must be excommunicated and is uprooted from this world.
2. Whoever has a meal of more than 216 grams of something with a
Beracha of Mezonot (such as cake, cookies, cereal etc.) must do Netillat
Yadayim and not say a Beracha for the washing. Even though one only says Birkat
HaMazon on 216 grams (however its correct to be stringent and eat 230 grams of
Mezonot anyways), they should do Netillat Yadayim even if they only eat 162
grams of Mezonot food. (Buy a weight calculator off amazon, $6 and fits in your
pocket).
