For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Before Tefillat Shaharit every morning there is a single
halacha that is against common sense. The Shulhan Aruch brings it down in the
Halachot before Tefillat Shaharit. Maran Shulhan Aruch says that one must say
out loud before beginning to pray: “Hareni
Mekabel Alai Mitzvah Aseh Shel Ahavata Le’Re’acha Kamocha VeHareni Ohev Kol
Ehad KeNafshi U’Meodi Ve’Hareni Mezamen Pi Lehitpalel Lifnei Melech Malchei
HaMelchaim HaKadosh Baruch Hu.”
I declare to take upon
myself the Mitzvah of ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself’ and I also LOVE
every single one like my own Soul and I take upon myself to invite my mouth to
pray in front of The King of all kings, Hashem.
What do we see here? The Shulhan Aruch, the composer of the
most important book of Halacha in Jewish History, brings down the Mitzvah of
the importance of another Jew before you begin to pray about your own
flesh and blood.
So many people assume the Torah creates people that are
selfish and self-centered, but we clearly see from this single Halacha that
even before we PRAY for our own tissue, we must think about the Jew down the
block without food for Shabbat or the Jew across the street that needs help
finding a Havruta to learn Torah.
B’H may we only see the spiritual light in each Jew and help
them bring that out to the entire Nation.
