For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel
For the Refua Shlema of Chai Yaakov ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. One is prohibited to perform Melacha (work, parnasah) on Erev Shabbat (Friday afternoon) from 9.5
Shaot Zemaniyot (Jewish hours, which
comes out to 5:00pm today) in order to prepare for Shabbat. The individual who
does interact in work after this time will not see Beracha (blessing) from the profit, and he/she might gain revenue
now but will lose in another transaction/event (this includes a Sofer Stam, one who works in writing
Tefillin, Mezuzot and Sifrei Torah). All this is when it is permanent, meaning
every Friday they continue to work. However, if one does it temporarily,
meaning they need to fix something or work for something small once in a blue
moon, it does not apply.
2. One is allowed to write Hidushei Torah (Divrei Torah) in the middle of his learning even
after this specific time where one needs to stop working. There is no
difference if it is by hand, typewriter or computer, it is allowed. If it is
for Torah learning, it is allowed to write up Divrei Torah until the time
reaches close to Shabbat. This stands especially for the individual who learns
Torah only with the addition of writing the Divrei Torah he learns.
