CLD #583

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L and Eliyahu ben Norma.

"את משפטי תעשו ואת חקתי תשמרו ללכת בהם אני ה' אלקכם"
You shall fulfill My ordinances and observe My statues. I am the G-d, your G-d. VaYikrah 18:4.

'"לא תקלל חרש ולפני עור לא תתן מכשול ויראת מאלקך אני ה"
You shall not curse a deaf person. You shall not place a stumbling block before a blind person, and you shall fear your G-d, I am the G-d. VaYikrah 19:14.

Action packed Parashiyot this week that are extremely fitting with Sefirat HaOmer. As we have stated yesterday, Sefirat HaOmer is a time of growth marking the 50 levels of purity. We count 50 days from the 2nd day of Pesach up until Shavuot, where we received the Torah and heard the first two commandments of Aseret HaDibrot (the ten commandments) from Hashem. These days mark days of growth because 3,324 years ago we left Mitzrayim (Egypt) at the 49th level of Impurity, one away from spiritual death and were raised to the the 50th level of Purity at the time of Matan Torah.

The two Parshiyot that Be’ezrat Hashem we will be listening to in Shul tomorrow morning are Acharei Mot and Kedoshim. Acharei Mot speaks about the process of Yom Kippur and the danger to stay away from impure acts, mainly sexual immorality, in such a world like ours. Kedoshim then speaks about the punishments of engaging in these low and impure acts and the main lessons of life between Man and His Fellow, or ben adam lechavero, that one should strictly follow because its only for our own good.

There are two Pesukim (verses) that I would like to focus on that really talk about the truth in our hearts and being honest with ourselves. The first pasuk, from Vayikrah 18:4 speaks about the general Mitzvah of following Hashem’s rules and laws. However, if one knows how Torah Reading works, they see that the sign for the end of the Pasuk is undernead “I am Hashem your G-d” and the sign is not under “I am Hashem your G-d.” From this we can learn that Hashem is the only one who has the “right” to say “I.” As we now from big Mussar books, Ga’ava or pride/show-off character is the absolute worst type of personality one can have. The more humble and modest the person is, the more Jewish and pure characteristics this person has. This teaches us that the only “show-off” in the world is Hashem, because in the end of the day we are nothing without Him.

Another Pasuk that caught my attention and showed me how honest we must be with ourselves is Vayikrah 19:14, speaking about main rules between adam lechavero, which shows the respect the Torah commands we should have for eachother. It speaks about not putting a stumbling block (literally) before a blind person and not cursing a deaf person. The Pasuk continues to teach “…and you shall fear your G-d, I am the G-d.” Rashi explains that this part of the Pasuk means only Hashem is the one who really knows whats lurking in one’s heart. Today we can have people smiling at you and looking like such great people but after a while you realize they are fake and filled with emptiness. You can’t trust them and you definitely cannot see yourself becoming friends with them.

There are also some people who act like pigs and they pretend to be Shomer Torah and Mitzvot (keeping Mitzvot) and in secret they are really anti-Torah and do not obtain the characteristics of a real Jew. Only Hashem knows if someone means to put any stumbling block before someone or night, that includes women walking on the street half clothed: because they have never received the proper education to teach them what Tzniyut is all about they are putting stumbling blocks in front of men who are trying to keep their eyes pure.

B’H we should be blessed for Hashem to open our eyes in whatever we focus into to see if the people around us are a good influence for us or the opposite.
Shabbat Shalom for all Am Yisrael!

Today is the 27th day of the Omer, which is 6 days and 3 weeks.
