CLD #567

For the Ilui Neshama of my grandfather, Avraham ben Ester A'H, which this Shabbat marked his 11-month Azkara (yortzite).

theCLD wishes all of Am Yisrael had a Pesach packed with Kedusha, Yirat Shamayim and much Simcha! The essence behind what it means to become a real legitmate nation in the eyes of Hashem is soemthing we do not take into account so much. Maybe on the Seder table or during the singing of Az Yashir by a body of water, however, with all the adorable children running around, the women handling the Kashrut of the food and the men making sure all the Mitzvot are done properly; it is a bit difficult to make sure we have that one or two moments of real hitbonenut, or self reflection.

What does that mean? Pesach is a time of Freedom. BUT WAIT. We literally bless Hashem for taking us out of Mitzrayim and in the Siddur Kavant HaLev, it brings down Rashi's commentary on Yetziyat Mitrzayim that we went from being Slaves, Avadim, of Pharoah to Ovdei Hashem (Servants of Hashem)! So how come we tell ourselves we are free?

The answer is quite simple. When someone is really practicing Judaisim and delving into the beauty behind the religious, culture, Tegfillot, Torah, etc. they see how free they are of their bodily desires and things that make them feel so materialistic. For example, if someone loves to read the Newspaper every morning or they cannot begin their morning without a cup of coffee, in reality, no BS here, they are slaves of the coffee or newspaper. It owns them.

However, Hashem did with us a huge Chessed (charity/kindness) and took us out of Egypt from working the land and building huge pyramids through slavery, whips, and blood to sitting down around a table filled with goodies and family to sing, eat and cherish these moments forever with real Simcha. Therefore, we sing and dance to Hashem thanking Him for giving us a time to relax and think how lucky we are to be His 'slaves,' when in reality we are the most free people/nation/unit in the universe.

Enjoy your freedom, be Jewish.
Judaism=Think.
Shavua tov!
