For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel
For the Refua Shlema of Chai Yaakov ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. The person who goes outside in the days of Nissan
(beginning on the 1st of Nissan, which is this Shabbat) and sees
trees that bear fruit which now (more than one) are growing flowers says the
following blessing: “Baruch Ata…Shelo
Hiser B’Olamo Keloom U’Barah Beriyot Tovot Ve’Ilanot Tovot Lehenot Bahem Benei
Adam.” Our Sages fixed this Beracha because there is an Inyan (idea) that from time to time man
sees trees that Hashem bore on them blooming flowers. We do not say the Beracha
of Shehecheyanu on the Ilanot and only say this Beracha once a year and no more
than that.
2. Women should also be motivated to say the Beracha of the
Ilanot, because it is not a Mitzveh SheHaZeman Geramah (which are time-bound
Mitzvot that women are exempt from). The only reason why Chachamim (our Sages)
set up this Beracha beginning Nissan 1 because of the reality that Hashem
caused nature to form the flowers to to begin to bloom during Nissan, so it is
not a time bound Mitzvah (and does not make women exempt from it).
