For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
In the
Parshiyot we read this morning, VaYakhel-Pekudei, the Torah heavily speaks
about the Great Mishkan. However, in the beginning of Parashat VaYakhel, Hashem
tells Moshe to explain to Am Yisrael some of the Halachot (Jewish Laws) of
Shabbat. The only Halacha that is stated in our Parasha is the halacha that
stated one cannot kindle up a fire on Shabbat.
So let’s
look at Shabbat in a little deeper viewpoint. When a person keeps Shabbat
Kodesh they actually testify to the world that Hashem is The Creator of the
world who completed creation in six days. Rav Mutzafi shlit’a explains in his
weekly shiur on these Parshiyot that if we mix around the word “Bereshit” we
see the words: Brit Esh, which means the Covenant of Fire.
After
explaining that Hashem and the Torah itself is compared to fire itself from
Pesukim (verses) in the Tanach, he brings a story.
A great
Rabbi 1200 years ago, Rav Sadya Gaon was known throughout the entire world. A
King of one of the many powerful countries invited him for a discussion. He
asked Rav Sadya Gaon: If Hashem is really in control of the entire world and I
believe that what directions do I need to turn to in order to bow down to Him
or sacrifice an animal for Him?
Rav Sadya
Gaon explained that this question can be answered by a 5 year old in Talmud
Torah (religious pre-school). The King told the Rav to send messengers bring
his son so the Rabbi cannot whisper the answer on the way. After the King asked
the son the question the son bravely said: “Can someone give me a candle?” In
no time the butlers and maids hustled to get a candle. The son lit it up and
asked the King: “Your highness, where does the light shine?”
Hashem is
the same exact thing (lehavdeel). His power, energy, presence fills up the
entire world and He is actually the entire world. We just went through 25 hours
of pausing life and entering total spirituality. Shabbat Kodesh is the boost
for the entire week. It is the center for everything's existence! Did you waste it and watch it pass before you or did you
actually do something, even if its ‘only’ reading a Perek (chapter) of
Tehillim, to strengthen your relationship with Hashem?
Even if we
didn’t, we still have next Shabbat to work on ourselves even more. Always look
forward and climb the ladders of spiritual success with a smile.
