For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel
For the Refua Shlema of Chai Yaakov ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. We begin learning the Halachot (Jewish Laws) of Pesach 30
days before Pesach, from Purim on. This is not a mandatory Halacha completely
and therefore all Talmidei Chachamim (Torah Scholars) can continue learning
what they usually learn. In any case, the big Rabbis and/or teachers who give
Shiurim to the public must begin teaching the Halachot of Pesach and reviewing
the laws to become experts once again on the topic. This is what Chazal (the
Sages) said about Chagim (holidays) where one must learn the Halachot of the
specific Chag on the day of the Chag as it says in Megillah 32a.
2. Throughout the entire month of Nissan (which begins in 8
days B’H), Am Yisrael does not say Tachanoon
Nefillat Apayim (“falling on the face” Prayer in times of sadness). Israel
does not say Tachanoon on days that mark extreme happiness in the history of Am
Yisrael. For example throughout the month of Nissan there is a packed calendar
of days of Simcha. Nissan 1 is Rosh Chodesh and until Nissan 13 the leaders of
the 12 Tribes brought the same exact Korban
(animal sacrifice) to offer on the Mizbeach (alter) after the “grand opening”
of the Mizebeach which were seen as Yamim
Tovim (days of Holiday). From Nissan 14 until 22nd we celebrate
the Chag of Pesach. On the 23rd of Nissan it is said that the Third
Beit HaMikdash B’H will be built and there will be a new holiday of another 7
days marking the building of the Third Beit HaMikdash. Therefore the entire
month of Nissan is filled with holidays.
