For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel
For the Refua Shlema of Chai Yaakov ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. A customer who walks into a store and tastes from the
many products (ex. Ice cream, nuts, seeds, etc.) with the intention of actually
buying from the store is allowed to taste from the store’s products. However,
if one does this only to taste the food and puts up a show to the storeowner
like he/she is planning on buying is violating the Issur of Gezel
(thievery), even if he/she is only tasting a tiny bit. This stands because the
storeowner only forgives actual customers with the intention of buying.
2. One is not allowed to buy from a thief stolen goods, and
all who buy from robbers are like people who finance thievery and this ends up
causing the robber to continue stealing. There are those who say if one buys
from a robber stolen goods of his/her friend (after going through all the
possible ways of trying to return the good) with the intention to return the
stolen goods to the real owner then he/she ca buy from the thief.
