For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel
For the Refua Shlema of Chai Yaakov ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Mekor Chaim Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. It is mandatory to be cautious regarding the Mitzvah of Tzedaka (donations/charity) more than
all the Active Mitzvot (Aseh). It is
a guarantee that one does not become poor when he/she gives Tzedaka and there
is nothing bad that results from this Mitzvah, as it is written “VeHaya Ma’aseh HaTzedaka Shalom” and the
deed of righteousness shall be peace (chabad.org). All who have mercy on
the poor Hashem will have mercy on them.
2. The one who gives Tzedaka
with a pessimistic tone/mood/attitude and embarrasses the poor person, even if
he/she has given them $1,000 it is as if he/she lost their reward of giving
Tzedaka. Rather, one should always gives Tzedaka with a generous tone and
positive attitude. If one does not have anything to give, then they can always pay
respect to the poor with comforting words. The one who persuades others to give
Tzedaka receives more reward than the one giving Tzedaka.
