CLD #517

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Presiden’ts Day.
According to Wikipedia it is celebrated to honor Geroge Washington’s birthday. What a difference with Am Yisrael and the Torah’s holidays, lehavdeel (term used to respect the Torah which cannot even be compared to american holidays).
When an important leader, Rabbi, Tzadik, Gedol HaDor (lehavdeel) passes away the Torah respects his date of departure to the next world as an important event not his date of birth. The importance of the Tzadik’s life is his death, or his “transfer date” from Olam Haze to Olam Haba (this world to the next).
Why do Am Yisrael focus so much on a person’s date of leaving this world? What’s so special about that date? It should be a time of sadness, a time of real suffering for the loved one’s and definitely a difficult time for the Soul of the departed, there is a judgment he/she must face in front of Hashem’s court of law where nothing is missed!
Let’s break down what life is all about. We know life is exactly like having the most delicious ice cream in front of you (that you never get sick of). You can go all day pulling down the lever and your favorite flavor just comes down!
However, with listening to the Yetzer Hara (Evil Inclination) we have sins that unfortunately build this horrendous cement wall to block us from enjoying the ice cream. With every sin we do we actually build this wall higher. From age of 13 where everything is fully under our responsibility, we take brick by brick from every sin and create a large wall! This is why many people have such trouble understanding Holy Concepts of Judaism. They have built for themselves such thick walls to prevent them from entering the spiritual world of Ice Cream, The World of Torah. (That is why Rabbis teach that learning Torah gives one the most happiness, because he/she breaks down the wall and can again enjoy from the “Ice Cream.”)
It says in Kohelet (7:1) “Tov Shem MeShemen Tov Veyom HaMavet Meyom Hevaledo” A good name is better than good oil and the day of death than the day of birth (Chabad.org). Let’s dig deeper.
When one dies, they enter the world free of the Evil Inclination, so they do not need to worry about sinning anymore. Also they finally have reached their completion in reaching their spiritual goals. When a Tzadik passes away, he finally receives the eternal reward of everlasting sweetness forever. All the work they have done in this world gets paid off and all their work of bringing thousands closer to Hashem is taken into account. Rashi on this Pasuk explains that the Tzaddikim (righteous) bring presents into the world through their actions, for example in Moshe’s existence came down the Mann (heavenly bread) that fed all of Am Yisrael, in Aharon’s existence came the Clouds of Glory to protect the entire nation.

This world is known as a world of Dishonesty and overall falsity. The Next World is the one of Emet, truth. Therefore this world is seen as a hallway, to pick up great things to take with us from room to room (to the next world)!

Live life through the happiness of knowing Hashem is with us always.
SHAVUA TOV!
