CLD #508

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester.
The Holy Ben Ish Chai writes in his Book, Ben Yehoyada on the Shas (Oral Torah), something unbelievable on one of the pieces of Torah Learning from Masechet Megillah. On Daf Vav Amud Aleph (Megillah 6a) the Gemara teaches that Eretz Yisrael is known for its “Milk and Honey,” it is called Eretz Zevat Chalav U’Dvash.
Because of a certain Limud (piece of Torah), the Gemara comes to add that if we take all the locations of whatever goes on that is called Eretz zevat Chalav U’Dvash and add them together, it comes out to a measurement of 22 Parsa’ot in length by 6 Parsa’ot in width. A Parsah in Aramaic is equivalent to 8,000 Amot, which in American units comes out to 4 miles. Therefore, all the locations of this so called Eretz Zevat Chalav UDvash added together and joined is 88 by 24 square miles! That’s a pretty massive location of Blessed Land.
Now let’s look deeper into what it means that Eretz Yisrael is filled with spots that marks the land the title “Eretz Zevat Chalav U’Dvash.” Rashi explains (and the Ben Ish Chai adds in as well) that his means the Figs (and specifically Figs) are so rich in sugar/fruit/produce and so large that the fruit’s juice drips from the fruit without anyone even touching it. Then the goats of the land of Yisrael, who are by these Fig trees with these enormous blessed figs are so healthy and so fat that their milk utters are filled to maximum (what a blessing)! This causes the utters to drip out the most rich milk. Now, the drops of Fig Honey and Milk causes streams of delicious blessed juices.
Together they form little streams. This is what the Gemara is talking about when it says “Eretz Zevat Chalav U’Dvash.
We already brought down the measurement in aramic units to describe this amount of land that has these streams (22 by 6 Parsa’ot). The Ben Ish Chai brings down a Chiddush (Dvar Torah) that says why does the Gemara specifically have to tell me that its 22 by 6. Why didn’t Hashem make it 14 by 30? So the Ben Ish Chai comes down to say: Its exactly 22 and no other number because there are 22 letters in the holy Hebrew alphabet that make up the Torah (Written Torah)! And with that spiritual power, the number 22 gives extra strength to the land itself in producing streams of Milk and Honey. Why 6?
The Ben Ish Chai says: Simple! Because the 6 Parsa’ot count for the Shisha Sidrei Mishnah (The Mishnah, which covers the entire Oral Torah). With the Power of the Written Torah (22) and Oral Torah (6), we reach the remarkable understanding of the blessing behind Eretz Yisrael’s 22 x 6 measurement of Milk and Honey.

The Torah is the source of Beracha (blessing) for the entire world to continue in existence. Without Torah there is no life!

Judaism=Think.
