For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef:
1. All that is Ikar
(essential) and Tafel (unnecessary)
in food, the Beracha is only said on the Ikar (Beracha Rishonah and Achronah,
before eating and after eating). Therefore, one does not say a Beracha on the
cheese in cake, even if they pick off the cheese off the cake. Even if one
takes off the cheese on the cake and puts it on another plate they only say a
Beracha on the cake.
2. Even though the Halacha states that when there is Ikar
and Tafel one should say a Beracha on the Ikar to fulfill the obligation of
saying a Beracha on the Tafel; if they Tafel is as important to the person
eating just like the Ikar, one should say a Beracha on the Tafel first and then
on the Ikar. For example, if there is rice and chicken mixed together on a
plate, even though the rice is Ikar and the chicken Tafel; if one favors the
chicken just like he/she favors the rice, then they say Shehakol on chicken and
Mezonot on rice.
