For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Torat Chacham Mekor Chaim. Shlomo HaMelech (King Solomon) says this
Pasuk in Mishlei. Shlomo HaMelech was granted a wish from Hashem during his
lifetime. He asked for Chochma (wisdom). Shlomo HaMelech wrote three of the 24
books in Tanach: Shir HaShirim, Kohelet and Mishlei.
In Mishlei there is the pasuk
(verse) written on top. The teaching of
the wise man is the source of life (Mishlei Perek Yud Gimel, Chapter 13).
What can we infer from this
Pasuk? The Pasuk could of said “Torat Hashem Mekor Chaim,” meaning The Torah of
Hashem is the source of life. So why (we can say) is the source of life, Torah,
given by a Chacham (a Wise Man) and not Hashem?
It is very pretty and cute to
say “Hashem will teach me Torah, I don’t need any spiritual leader/Rabbi to
tell me what to do!” However, Shlomo HaMelech tells us here that the truth in a
Jew’s life is reached only with the presence of a spiritual leader, a Rabbi, a
religious figure!
Its easy to go about our
lives and lie to ourselves and say: We are religious enough. We are set. We
don’t need any guidance. “I know what is good for me!”
However, who is the one who
is real with him/herself? One who is able to accept rebuke/Mussar! This is only
reached from a religious role model/Rabbi. The Garden of Emunah, written by Rav
Shalom Arush shlit’a says that one should pray day and night to find the
religious figure/Rabbi that should direct him/her on the path to a life of Torah
and Kedusha (purity).
Pirkei Avot tells us: “Aseh
Lecha Rav VeHistalek Min HaSafek” (Perek Aleph Mishnah Tet Zayin, 1:16), Make
for yourself a Rabbi and run away from being in doubt. Being in doubt, or in Hebrew
“Safek” has the same Gematriya as Amalek (the biggest enemy of Am Yisrael who
fought the nation after receving the Torah). Being without a Rav is like living
a life without any positive outcome do to being in doubt.
B’H we should all reach a
place in our lives where we know we have some Rabbi/real spiritual leader who we can count on to living a life of
closeness with Hashem. Start pushing yourself to reach your potential! You can do it and its all up to you. Spiritual success is reached through a spiritual leader.
