CLD #487

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
"Hashivenu Hashem Elecha Ve’Nashuva Chadesh Yamenu KeKedem" (Eichah 5:21)
Restore us to You, Hashem, that we may be restored! Renew our days as of old.
Obviously this pasuk (verse) speaks about Teshuva (repentance)!
Rav Chizkiyah shlit’a told us in the name of his father, Rav Neventzhal shlit’a (the Senior Chief Rabbi of the Old City) that Kedem it broken down into 3 major concepts of Teshuva. Kedem is made up of 3 different letters: Kuf=Kayin, Dalet=David, Mem=Menasheh. These are 3 major figures in the Tanach history that made Teshuva somehow. Mem is Menasheh for Menasheh’s Teshuva that he did. Even though Menhasheh was a cruel cruel king in the end of his days some say he did full Teshuva and repented before Hashem.
His Teshuva, however, was the worst Teshuva! Menasheh prayed to Hashem: “If you do not accept my Teshuva Hashem, therefore you are equivalent to all the other gods.” The next Teshuva discussed is the Teshuva Kayin made (which killed Hevel), Kayin asked Hashem a crucial rhetorical question: “What, Hashem, you’re not going to forgive me?!” And the highest possible Teshuva one can make is the same Teshuva that David HaMelech made, which is a type of repentance one makes to change their entire lives for Hashem. To feel Hashem’s presence everywhere and to overall try to glue oneself to the reality that Hashem exists.
This Pasuk comes to teach us that no matter what type of Teshuva we do; as long as we do Teshuva, we will have the zchut from the Rachamim of Hashem to have our Teshuva accepted! This also shows us how much confidence we need to have in ourselves and our actions. We need to know that even the tiniest of tiniest of a thought of Teshuva does such wonders and creates so much positive noise in the upper worlds! Hashem loves all of us and just wants us to enjoy the good that we can earn in this world by getting close to him. However, it is all in our hands.

Judaism=Think.
