For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef:
1. After Arvit of Shabbat (Evening Prayer), one should be
quick to go home and do Kiddush
(bless on the wine to ‘make’ the day Holy), because it is a Mitzvah Lekadesh (to do Kiddush for
Shabbat). Therefore, one should
not delay and chat with other Shul members, rather he should quickly get home
to do Kiddush. There are those who have the minhag
to bless their children after the Kiddush, which is suggested rather than
before the Kiddush. Also, one should kiss the hands of their mother and father
after Kiddush.
2. One should start teaching a Katan (word for child under Bar mitzvah) already at the age of Chinuch (parenting age, which is at 6
years old) not to eat or drink anything before Kiddush. However, only when it
is needed, such as in the morning before Tefillat Shacharit or when the family
is waiting a long time for a guest, a Katan
eat before Kiddush.
