CLD #457

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Who was the enemy during Chanukah? The Greeks. How do you say Greece in Hebrew: Yavan, with the Spelling Yod-Vav-Nun Sofit.
From the letters of the name of the enemy in the story of Chanukah we can see the Impurity that rests in that nation. How?
Just look at the word: The Yod (י) is a tiny letter, it symbolizes small change.
The Vav (וּ) is a solid line, it is still not that monumental of a direction (downwards) but it is still something that dents the direction of the letter.
The Nun Sofit (ן) is the ultimate change, the ultimate direction killer to Gehinom, hell.

Rav Yoshiyahu Pinto shlit’a has a Tikkun HaNefesh (a pamphlet of Pirkei Tehillim combined) that they say everyday in his Yeshiva on E59th st., the first Perek taken is the first Perek of Tehillim. The First Perek of Tehillim represents the foundation of the battle against the impure forces we have to deal with. It goes like this: “Ashrei HaIsh Asher Lo Halach Be’Atzat Reshaim, U’bedereh Chataim lo Amad Uv’Moshav Letzim Lo Yashav.” The First Pasuk of Tehillim translates like this: Praised is the man who did not follow in the way of the wicked, neither did he stand in the way of the sinners nor sit in the company of scorners.

What is David HaMelech (the composer of Tehillim) trying to relate to us?! Just tell us not to follow the Yetzer Hara’s advice and only live in a world of Torah & Mitzvot and that’s it?! No. That is not enough. Here David HaMelech is giving us a life long tip: The Yetzer Hara works exactly like the letters of Yavan fall out: First it tells you to follow the Reshaim, it is not a big deal, it is only a tiny little Yod (י), then the Yetzer Hara tells you to stand in their way; it is only a little Vav (וּ) and finally the Yetzer Hara goes for the homerun by almost forcing us to sit and already become part of the group of sinners, which is already the real visual dent (ן) that we see!

B’H no matter how low we reach in spiritual terms, we should always know and remember that Hashem is the most Merciful being in the entire planet more than all merciful people put together.

SHABBAT SHALOM!
Judaism=Think.
If we are by the Yod, Vav, or Nun Sofit of Yavan; we can always do Teshuva and get closer to Hashem and rise, rise and keep on rising!
