CLD #454

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Be’ezrat Hashem we will all have the zchut to celebrate in huge Simcha (joy) and Halel (thanks) to Hashem Chag Chanukah next week!
People mistakenly believe that Chanukah is mostly celebrated because of the Nitzachon (victory) in the war between the 13 (yes, only 13 people) Chashmonaim verses tens of thousands of Greek soldiers! It is true that this is absolutely incredible, that even though we were in such low levels of Kedusha (spirituality), Hashem still had the huge Rachamim (mercy) on Am Yisrael and gave us the power to beat the striking Greek army.
But it is true to say that the basis of the entire celebration is NOT about the war at all, at least the physical war. However, in Osef Divrei Torah by the Admor from Spinka, the Admor writes (and it is known) that the basis of the Halel and Simcha of Chanukah is generated from Hashem’s mercy on us to still be Jewish!
What was the whole spiritual war that we won (all in Chasdei Hashem)? It was the fact that the Greeks tried to eradicate completely three major laws from the Torah that make Jews different from all the other nations of the world. What are the three laws? Shabbat. (Rosh) Chodesh. And (Brit) Milah, circumcision.
Shabbat is known as the day of the week that is highest spiritually. It represents the basic testimony that Hashem runs the world and that Hashem instructs us to act above nature and rest during the week (also, we must add that in America Shabbat Kodesh for the Goyim is the busiest day in the market).
Rosh Chodesh is also the time when we calculate the correct Jewish times for the upcoming month according to the Moon. This is simply stating that the Jewish calendar, down to every second, is completely different from the non-Jewish times.
Brit Milah is simply the place where the Yetzer Hara (Evil Inclination) bases his headquarters on the body when man is brought into the world. When the Jew has a Brit Milah they are in fact slicing off a major part of the Yetzer Hara, unlike the Goyim. Also, it is above nature to stop oneself from running after the desires the Yetzer Hara causes us to have, so the Brit Milah represents our ability to go above nature and (until marriage) fight off Be’ezrat Hashem the Yetzer Hara of  sexual attraxction.

B’H we need to stick it deep in our minds that we are NOT LIKE THE NON-JEWS! Just like yoke from the white stuff. The Torah separates us from the entire world and we need to be proud of this, and not be embarrassed to wear a kippa in public or wear clothes that show you are Tzanua because you are Jewish!

Judaism=Think.
How lucky are we to be Jewish?!
