For the Refua Shlema of Mordechai Tzvi ben Sara & Binyamin ben Blanka.
Today’s gregorian Calendar Date is 11/1/11,
which makes up 5 times 1. We know that the Number One has many meanings that
are symbolized throughout the Torah.
We know One stands for One G-d, Hashem, who
controls the entire world and bestows everlasting good upon everyone and
everything. We also know that One stands for the Monotheistic approach that
Hashem protects each individual by his/her own spiritual level and is protected
at an individual level instead of the group level.
One can also be seen as “I,” or me. There is a
Passage we say every morning in Tefillat Shacharit (morning Prayer) that is
called “Az Yashir,” the Song that Moshe and Bnei Yisrael said when leaving
Mitzrayim. In this passage, Bnei Yisrael sing Thanks to Hashem for opening up
Yam Suf into 12 paths to let the entire Am
(nation) run away from their enemy. Also in this song, Moshe Rabbeinu brings up
the words of Paroh (Pharoah), who told
his entire army that he will divide the spoils of war and tries to persuade
them to go after Bnei Yisrael (right after they all saw the terrifying 10
plagues).
Pride (the lack of dependency in Hashem) that Paroh had in himself is one of the worst ways one can act in front of Hashem.
Pride (the lack of dependency in Hashem) that Paroh had in himself is one of the worst ways one can act in front of Hashem.
So what did Paroh tell his army sepcificially?
“I will pursue, I will overtake, I will share the booty; my desire will be
filled from them; I will draw my sword, my hand will impoverish them” (Bereshit
15:9, chabad.org). This Pasuk has 5 consecutive words that begin with the
letter Aleph, to symbolize the degree in which Paroh did not believe in Hashem and
only believed in his own power. Hashem did what He did and we all know what
happened: Am Yisrael left Mitzrayim with not even a single casualty! The entire
Egyptian army was wiped out by the huge walls of Yam Suf’s waters.
theCLD classic question: What can we learn
from this? No one succeeds when thinking that everything is in their own hands. When there is Ga'ava, there is NO SUCCESS. Ga'ava is a component of major failure. Hashem loves the modest and cannot live with the ones who have pride in
themselves (Orchot Tzadikkim, Chapter of Ga’ava).
B’H we should all watch out from this quality
that is considered the worst way to act with Hashem and with people. The Torah
is everywhere, we just need to OPEN OUR EYES.
