From Yalkut Yosef about Erev Yom Kippur (Friday before
Sunset):
1. It’s a Mitzvah to enlarge one’s food/drink intake on Erev
Yom Kippur (Friday until Sunset). The Gemara asks on the Pasuk in Vayikra 23:32
“It is a complete
day of rest for you, and you shall afflict yourselves. On the ninth of the month in the
evening, from evening to evening, you shall observe your rest day.” What does
it mean to afflict oneself on the Ninth of the month, beause Yom Kippur falls
on the Tenth on the month? So we learn that one who eats on the Ninth of the
Month (Friday Sunrise – Friday Sunset) is like one who fasts! This teaches that
one should even LESSEN their Torah study to have more to have a meal before Yom
Kippur! Therefore one who works on Erev Yom Kippur (Friday) will not see a
Beracha (blessing) from that profit forever.
2. Lechatchila (it
is best) to set one meal with Bread (to do Netillat Yadayim and say HaMotzi) on
Erev Yom Kippur (Friday), in order to do in full the Mitzvah of having a meal
on Erev Yom Kippur.
