From Yalkut Yosef about Yom Kippur (this Friday):
1. Yom HaKippurim does not atone for Sins between Adam
Lechavero (man and his friend) until his/her friend forgives. So too with the
one who hurts physically, steals, or takes financial advantage (etc.) of
his/her friend does not get atoned for by fasting and taking part of Yom
Kippur. Until one pays the money he/she owes, or admits to the theft, or the
interest taken (that was unlawful), he/she is in trouble because Chazal (the
Sages) have said if there is a ‘basket’ of sins, the one that pushes the person
to be judged as guilty the fastest is Theft. And even if he/she returns the
stolen amount, they will not be forgiven in Shamayim (Heaven) until they receive
a sincere forgiveness from the one stolen from.
2. If the one who did the sin against his/her friend is not
forgiven, he/she should return to them for up to three times and each time
he/she should take with them three people (as ‘witnessed’). If by the third
time (with the three people) the person does not forgive, then he fulfilled the
duty of being forgiven. However, if the person who was hurt was his/her Rabbi,
even if just a simple Rabbi that taught him/her Torah, he/she needs to go ask
for forgiveness even 1000 times.
Yom Kippur is in 2
days, Enough said.
