For the Refua Shlema of Mordechai Tzvi ben Sara & Binyamin ben Blanka.
Rabbi Pinkus is a famous Rabbi from the
previous generation. He has many inspiring books about Mo’adim (holidays) and
Shabbat. One of the largest volumes in this set is the book on the 10 days of
Aseret Yemei Tshuva and the Yamim Nora’im (10 days of Repentance which includes
Rosh HaShanah and the days after until <and including> Yom Kippur).
He brings a beautiful understanding of these
Yamim Nora’im (awesome days) by 2 main uplifting metaphors. One is about the
body. As we know from a biological perspective, we are all made up of 2 main
parts: The Head and The Body. With the body one can reach many places, but they
are limited. For example, if you are walking down Lexington Ave. and you put
your hand out you can only reach about 2 or 3 feet in front of you (obviously
by standing still). Even if you do walk for years, you can only walk for a limited number of miles. However, your head is made up of many ‘forever’ parts that can
reach so many places. We have our eyes that look at the vast amount of stars at
night and our mouths that can empower people to do so much.
For example the Rabbi brings up hitler Imach Shmo (may his name be erased) and his power of Speech to persuade millions to think annihilating millions is civil. Also Ahmadinejad in our generation Imach Shmo; how many people follow his nonsense that the Holocaust did not exist? Plain ridiculous.

So these Aseret Yemei Tshuva (48 Hours left)
are given to us to realize we can reach such high places in the world.
Therefore, all our actions need to be calculated extra carefully, because one
action NOW that we do is equal to accomplishing what one can do only after many
actions. Telling you its like supermario when the Mario character doubles in size is not good enough of a way to explain Aseret Yemei Tshuva.
Another metaphor that was awesome had to do with the Crane.
The Rabbi heard once that a big Rabbi in his
generation who would push hundreds to do Tshuva (was a big Rabbi of Kiruv) by
hosting seminars, meals, classes, etc. was asked an interesting question. The
question: “In previous generations it was known that pushing someone to do
Tshuva was a lfietime’s work. How does it make sense that you managed to help
hundreds do Tshuva?”
The Kiruv Rabbi answered with a powerful
metaphor: When someone has blocks of cement tied up together, it almost
impossible to move them. Maybe a group fo 20 or 30 people can manage, but
success is far away. In order to move it the construction company brings a
crane. After picking up the blocks of cement when its in the air by the floor
it needs to be at, a construction worker can simply turn around or maneuver the
blocks as he pleases so it will be rested in a good way. The Rabbi explained
that the Rambam writes that Hashem promises
that before Mashiach (BB’A) all of Israel will do Tshuva! So there is such a
large difference between previous generations and today.
Back in those times one person was like 10,000
tons of cement!!! In order to pick them up one didn’t have any cranes or
technology that would do the job. They would do it manually. Imagine how long
that would take.
Today Hashem HIMSELF in a snap creates cranes
and just constantly lifts us to higher and higher levels of Spirituality!
This is also the time that these cranes lift people up
spiritually (its not a coincidence that I personally have been hearing from many people about their Hirhurei Tshuva,
thoughts of repentance)! These are the days to
be serious. These are the days to build and to take advantage.
Yom
Kippur is in 2 days.
Only
2 Nights left for Selichot 5772.
Are
you going to start taking advantage?
