CLD #407

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester & the Refua Shlema of Mordechai Tzvi ben Sara.
Baruch Hashem we had the zchut (privilege) to begin another Torah Reading Cycle with parashat Bereshit. How can we see that parashat Bereshit brings us a sign to always continue trying to get closer to Hashem, no matter how low we fall?
The word “Bereshit” says it all. There are Poskim that say that just from the DOT ALONE from the letter Bet (the first letter of the Torah), we can learn ALL the teachings of the Torah!
So let’s look at the concept of Returning to Hashem (Teshuva) in the word Bereshit:
The word “Bereshit” is comprised of 6 letters: Bet, Resh, Aleph, Shin, Yud, Tav.
When someone begins the process of doing Teshuva, where does it begin?
With the Dot in the letter “Bet”: that dot marks the strating point, where one keeps their “Brit” (male organ) or for girls: the act of staying pure.
Then one goes to the “Rash,” which symbolizes the act of running. The verb “run” in Hebrew is “Ratz,” also beginning which Resh which is the symbol here.

After running, one may ask: where is the Jew running to?
He/She is running after Hashem. Aleph has the gematriya (numerical value) of 1, which the symbol of Hashem and is literally made up of 3 letters that have the Gemtariya of 26, which is the same gematriya as G-d’s name.

After that there is still more to do. One has to run after Hashem by doing what?
Shabbat. Keeping Shabbat is symbolized by the letter Shin.
Then what?
The Yud, the next letter in the word Bereshit, has a gematriya of 10, which symbolizes the power fo Minyan and prayer with the Tefillin. This is another foundation of Judaism: Tefillah and connection with Hashem through Emunah (faith).

The final letter of Bereshit is Tav. Its Numerical Value is 400. What does this represent? Before Hashem took out am Yisrael from Mitzrayim (Egypt), the nation was supposed to be there for 400 years. Only after 400 years they should be free. So 400 symbolizes freedom and redemption.

B’H after one begins the process of Teshuva, they should feel and experience a real Yeshu’ah (salvation), as we saw with Gilad Shalit!

SHAVUA TOV!
