For the Refua Shlema of Mordechai Tzvi ben Sara & Binyamin ben Blanka.
Simchat Torah is one of the most joyful days
in the Hebrew Calendar. Besides for the fact that it boosts unity and love
between all of Am Yisrael thoruhgout the WHOLE GLOBE, Simchat Torah is a time
of deep speculation one should have! On what? On their level of spirituality
now and what they want their level of spirituality to be like at the next
Simchat Torah (B’H we should have the zchut).
Hashem put us in the world to serve/work. It
is known that Adam Le’amal Ulad, Man was created to work. But what does that
mean? One should work on themselves.
Simchat Torah is a time of happiness, joy,
unity, brotherly love (especially since Gilad is home), etc. But why is it
that we were so happy? Even though Gilad was not home last year we were still
dancing with the Sifrei Torah on the streets in our communities.
So what is Simchat Torah?
It is one’s level of understanding how LUCKY
they are to be Jewish, to be the nation that Hashem uses to bring shefa (positive spiritual power) into
the world! When one does a Mitzvah, Hashem sends us down ‘beams’ of positive
spiritual forces to better perfect the world, and the same goes for the
opposite with a sin.
Think about it a little: when one follows a
life of Torah, they reach ultimate happiness. But why? Because they are in
constant order. Today unfortunately, people think these safeguards and warnings
of love from Hashem (the Mitzvot from the Torah) are ‘harsh restrictions’ and
‘fanativ behaviors’ the modern day Jew should NOT follow.
But if one looks a little deeper in the
Mitzvot and sees what they cause, they will see they are only given to PERFECT
the world.
My Grandfather A'H at 103 going up to the Torah. Why was he so eager and determined to live a life of Full Faith in Hashem? |
For example, lets take the Halacha of Shomer
Negiya (avoiding from physical touch of the opposite sex). When one sees how
society acts, with explicit pictures for every eye to see on Magazines by the
Deli Shops, with explicit acts between man and woman on the subway, or even
just the behavior of people and the lack of sensitivity one has for eachother,
they can really become depressed to see how disrespectful society acts.
If we look at Sexual Harassment, which is
obviously 100% against Hashem and the Torah, then we see we don’t need any
government or corporate laws/rules to tell people how to act. Why? Because the
Torah already gave the blueprints of behavior, its called Books of Mussar and
Pirkei Avot.
The only thing we need is to THINK. In such a
society such as New York City, one does not have 10 seconds to sit down and
breathe; from the Television to the Cell Phone alerts to the Homework
Assignments to the next study hour for the upcoming exam to the next business
meeting and lunch and dinner and visiting family and getting ready for Chag,
etc. So Hashem gives us 3 days of Chag, absolute solidarity and relaxation from
the whole mess to think.
What is Simchat Torah? Why am I happy that I
am commanded to follow the Torah? Is this an everlasting Joy or just a
temporary happiness for a few minutes? Why am I Jewish? What is my purpose? Why
should I be happy that I am being commanded to do something which is against my
nature?
Judaism=Think.
Take 1 day of the Chag and just think. What can I do to improve my
relationship with Hashem and why does that help me with everything else? What are
you doing this Simchat Torah: taking it a tiny bit more serious than last year and realizining its the time to celebrate our inheritance of the HOLY TORAH or just drinking away a night of real Simcha?
P.S. We also begin reading the Torah Cycle again by reading Parashat
Bereshit on Shabbat.
How can I use this new beginning to reach my spiritual potential?
