L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester, Shahin Shmuel
ben Hadassa &
Israel Ben Rivka.
From Yalkut Yosef:
1. The minhag
(custom) on Erev Rosh HaShanah (the day of Rosh HaShanah) is to get a haircut
to respect the Chag (holiday). And we wear clean and ironed clothing to respect
the Chag to show that we are sure of Hashem’s mercy on us and we will be judged
to a good life and to peace.
2. Another minhag
on Erev Rosh HaShanah is to dip in the mikveh (from the sin of wasting seed).
This dip is not from the actual Halacha (law) and is just a minhag, therefore
one does not need to be extra cautious (like a woman’s dip) and check that the
entire body and hair was under water, etc. This minhag is only a nice minhag,
therefore a man does not say a Beracha before dipping in the mikveh (which is
best to do 5 hours after sunrise).
