For the Refua Shlema of Mordechai Tzvi ben
Sara & Binyamin ben Blanka.
In Sociology class today there
was something that the professor said that really caught my attention. He was
in the middle of saying something where he commented about himself (he’s around
55 years old, probably older): “I’m just an old fart anyway…” What can we learn
from this?
The western society teaches us
the younger you are, or the closer you are to the age of 25/30, the more
satisfied you will be with your life. What is the truth with Judaism? We are
here to learn from our experiences and grow and learn after every circumstance.
For example, today on Facebook I said a comment that really shook the
foundations of people’s lives (including mine), and I am going to see the
reactions I receive and learn from that B’H.
So what is so special about
being old in Judaism? Besides the fact that everyone stands up for you
(Positive Commandment from the Torah), all the knowledge and experience of your
life are put into a single brain, ready to challenge everything that faces you.
An old Jew is a wise learned person that is appreciated and respected. From
what the professor said about himself, joke no joke, it seems like there isn’t
so much respect for a ‘learned’ person in the often praised Western Society.
B’H we should realize that the
Torah is the right way and ONLY way for a Jew to live. Fanatic, lenient,
liberal, whatever you want to call it: the Torah is the truth.
