Besides learning what the Gemara (Talmud=Oral Law) is literally saying, when one learns something Torah related, he/she sees that there is always something other than the literal meaning to learn. For example, in Masechet Kiddushin (laws of betrothing a woman), there is a certain study of how one engages in this act. Generally, one needs to hand over a certain amount of money or something of the value of a minimum amount of money and say a certain phrase that proves of the whole deal.
The Gemara on 5b explains this and throughout the page it speaks about the way a man does this. At the beginning of a study that is right after another study of the same topic, Shmuel says: In regards to Kiddushin… Rashi answers the question that everyone should think when learning this: Why did Shmuel say “In regards to Kiddushin…” in the beginning of his learning? He could of just begun right away with what he wanted to say?!?!
Rashi explains that this was brought forth to explain the end of the learning that begin with “In regards to Divorcing…”
What is ONLY ONE thing that this teaches us? That with whatever we do there is a certain way to do it. The Torah, especially books of Mussar (characteristic trait & Middot refining books), always speak about how important it is to be clean, stay fit, live a certain way of respect and pleasure (obviously there is a certain amount of this that is needed also). Every Jew needs to understand that there is a way to do things. The way to do it is throughout the Torah HaKdosha. Whether its Derech Eretz, how to learn, how to go to the bathroom, how to put on shoes, even how to be friendly with someone, how to prevent anger, how to respect people, how to eat, what to eat, how to pray,
how to wake up, how to go to sleep, how to wash your hands, how to speak to someone, in what tone to speak to them, how to WIPE, how to think, what to look at, what to listen to, where to sit, why to do something, etc. THERE IS ALWAYS A PLACE WHERE WE CAN GO TO SEE HOW TO DO IT! The TORAH HAKDOSHA!
The Torah is the world, the reality before the world, and whatever the world will be when Mashiach comes. I heard from a Bachur (single Yeshiva student) from Yeshiva (Shuva Yisrael 122 E58th St., all invited 3 meals a day/3 prayers a day) that in the days of Mashiach everyone will be like the same, but in reality everyone will be so different. How can we understand this? Its like taking a stick in the ocean, if one moves it 3 feet from the shore the stick will reach the ocean floor a lot quicker than if one moves the stick 30 feet from the shore.
Every act we do affects everything and everyone around us. We are all like drops of water, so lets do each other a huge favor and simply think before we do the next thing we do.
