For the Lyilui Nishmat of Shahin Shmuel ben Hadassa & the Refua Shlema of Mordechai Tzvi ben Sara and Avner ben Zulai.
Baruch Hashem, most of the Jews today who at least go to Bet Knesset on Shabbat Kodesh, know that parashat VaEtchanan (our Parasha this week) is all about Tefillah (Amida Prayer). The word VaEtchanan is 515 in Gematriya, which symbols the 515 tefillot that Moshe prayed in front of Hashem to enter Eretz Yisrael.
Moshe Rabbeinu A’H did not get into Eretz Yisrael because he hit a rock and did not speak to it. What’s the big deal?!?
Hashem got so upset with Moshe because of the idea behind the rock itself. Hitting a rock and then water spilling out of it is LESS of a Miracle than speaking to a rock and water spilling out of it. This shows how big of a deal it was that Am Yisrael lost the opportunity to BELIEVE in Hashem MORE! Hashem is asking for us to believe in Him, in times of need and in times where we believe everything is okay. Why? BECAUSE THIS IS THE BEST THING FOR YOU! When one believes in Hashem, everything goes smooth, even if you were late for a meeting or had crazy stomach pains on a bus to Florida ; everything is in the hands of G-d, therefore EVERYTHING is for the good! Sounds crazy, but its 100% true.
The Ben Ish Chai explains why Moshe wanted to get into Eretz Yisrael so badly! He says that Moshe was looking to do the Mitzvot that one can ONLY do in Eretz Yisrael. Because Moshe was prohibited from entering Eretz HaKodesh, then he could not complete these Mitzvot.
So we come down to the question for the parasha: What is the reward of a Mitzvah? It says in Pirkei Avot- Schar Mitzvah Mitzvah (4:2). This means that the reward of a Mitzvah is the Mitzvah itself. And even more than that, it’s the SIMCHA (happiness) behind doing the Mitzvah itself.
When one thinks ‘what am I accomplishing by keeping Shabbat?’ and sees he/she is actually TESTIFYING that Hashem created the world in 6 days and on the 7th He rested so we rest, how amazing is that feeling?!?! When we realize that Hashem is our Father, and we all have this natural desire to do what our Father wants, and then we KNOW that we are doing it, how does this not give us Simcha?!
Hashem gives us everything, why is it so difficult to give back? Everything is Emunah (faith), Emunah (faith) is Everything.
SHABBAT SHALOM!
