CLD #343

For the Refua Shlema of Mordechai Tzvi ben Sara, Avner ben Zulai & Moshe ben Mazal.
What does it mean Lachzor B’Tshuva, to return to do Tshuva?
Beautiful story for beautiful Jews who don’t understand (translated from the book Ve’En Lamo Michshol Part 10):
There was once a King that gathered all the townspeople and the citizens of the land and announced, “whoever succeeds in climbing all 200 stories of my tallest building will receive a treasure chest filled with diamonds.” Who doesn’t want to win such a prize?! Everyone agreed to at least try.
There first person was the town’s heaviest weight champ, and when he was sure of his success, he began the climb. After ten levels he began to sweat, at twenty he was already like a sponge, and after fifty he started losing his mind. At the 90th floor, he fainted because his body could not handle such a mission. Quickly medical representatives of the King came and took him away, and of course he did not even receive even a single diamond from the King.
After him another champ began the climb and by the 90th floor failed, so too with the third, fourth, fifth, and the rest of the people who tried. In the same town lived an old senior, that used to lean on his cane all day for support and limped. After hearing all the ruckus, he asked what was going on and he heard the news of such a reward. He told everyone: “I’m going to climb!” Everyone thought he’s crazy and said: All those champs climbed and fainted, How are you going to succeed?!
He said: I will succeed!
The Zaken (old person) began the climb floor by floor, step by step. There was no more sweat left in him, every now and then he would almost give up and fall. With all these obstacles he said: If the King gave such a challenging mission this means it COULD BE DONE! At the 90th floor he fell and fainted like everyone else, however he continued to tell himself: If the King said it could be done, then it could be done, even if there is 110 floors left…
He decided ONLY ONE MORE FLOOR! Using his teeth, the Zaken with all his might, step by step, reached the 91st floor!!! And to his bewilderment, the Zaken sees a brand new first-class Elevator. In a matter of seconds he reached the 200th floor, where he waved his cane to the crowd at the bottom to show his success, and of course got the diamonds as a reward.
The prophet Hoshea says “Shuva Yisrael Ad Hashem Elokecha…” which means if Hashem told us we need to reach a certain level, then that means that level can obviously be reached! When Hashem sees that we no longer can reach that level, He will send us an Elevator! We can see here that even though all beginnings are difficult, after a large amount of effort, comes Hashem’s help and assurance!

Av, made up of two letters (Aleph & Bet), is Rashei Tevot (acronym) for Elul Ba, Elul is coming. We need to begin our Tshuva with the challenge of halting our sleep for Slichot BH Bli Neder! These are the fundamentals of our life, our Torah HaKdosha, our love for one another, and our strength in believing Hashem is The Master of the World!
