Today's CLD is L'yilui Nishmat (my saba) Avraham Ben Ester & Yosef ZT'L. As we all know, Ga'ava ("gaiva") is the worst characterstic trait. This is why the Orchot Tzadikkim writes about Ga'ava in the first chapter consisting of 28 chapters in the book Orchot Tzadikkim in order to make sure people realize that they need to completely distance themselves from ga'ava. The opposite of Ga'ava is the "Middah Tova," called Anava, or modesty.
My Saba, Alav HaShalom, was the example of true modesty. The previous dor (generation) were not from this world. We expect the luxuries and all the best of the world and we still complain. When was the last time you remmeber your granma/granpa complained?
Saba Avraham Alav HaShalom always said everything is in the Hands of the Boreh Itbarach (the Creator). Whenever Saba was in pain or hurt or had his rash on his leg itching, he would always answer (after asking how he feels) "Baruch Hashem," "Ma Shehoo Rotzeh" (whatever He <Hashem> wants).
Whenever Saba also was in pain or whatever it was, and it was obvious, we would ask him if he needed anything. Only after driving him to the point of annoying him then he would answer with a "get this or get that," never asking someone specifically for a favor.
With his head down, through modesty and respect, and with love, he would sit silently on the side, opening his doors to everyone.
B'H we will all learn from the older generations what it means to be Mesiroot Nefesh, what it means to be Ivdei Hashem, what it means to be VeAhavta Bechol Levavcha, what it means to really, but really have Emunah Tmimah!
Step by step we can and will B'H push eachother to reach our spiritual potentials, and then easily we will reach every other potential.
