B'H blogging from Barnes & Noble again:
Our eyes are remarkable.
All the information that we have about technology, lens, cameras, photography, video, computer monitors, etc. all generate from our eyes. Hashem created our eyes with great Chochma, just like we say every morning regarding the world, “Kulam BeChochma Asita,” Everyone in wisdom you have created.
We can see from the eyes alone, from the eyelashes that clean the eyes from bacteria, dust, and the like, to the fact that both eyes work in unison, that Hashem is the ruler of the world. How did it “just happen” that way? How is it possible to even think that something or someone other than the Father in Shamayim created us?
With a lot of Rachmanoot and love from Shamayim we are able to see that Hashem is with us all the time and we are never alone.
The eye is one of the main doors for the Kdusha for our bodies. A couple weeks ago we read in Parashat Kedoshim the importance of Kdusha and staying away from the immorality in this world. In Parashat Shoftim it begins by Hashem telling Moshe to appoint different types of officers to lead Am Yisrael. This pasuk is also interpreted by Hashem telling Moshe to tell Am Yisrael to place guards and officers upon themselves. Meaning to put shields of Kdusha upon ourselves.
One of the hardest things in our generation is to guard ourselves from the tuma, the impure, the American ideology to be open and free and sexual. In order for Am Yisrael to become united, to get closer to Hashem, and just in general be happy is by staying in the realm of Kdusha.
This is why the eye is so important. Also being the main force of all Kdusha it can be used as well to be the main opening to the Yetzer Hara and the Tumah, Hashem Yerachem. As it says in Shma “VeLo Taturu Acharei Levavchem VeAcharei Enechem Asher Zonim Acharehem.” And do not crave after your hearts and eyes because you perform immoral acts after following them.
When we have the gates of our Kdusha, which for men is the eyes, the Brit Milah, the act of doing Tefillin and keeping Shabat, all guarded, ONLY THEN we can all begin to reach for the Kdusha that Hashem spills into this world based on His Rachamim He has on us!
B’H May we all overcome our own personal Yetzer Hara and we will all rise to the levels that the Yetzer Hara makes us believe we cannot get to.
SHAVUA TOV!
