CLD #232

On the subway you learn a lot of things such as: 1. seeing how unhappy Goyim seem to be, no matter how rich they look; 2. the difference between the way Goyim act in public and most Yehudim act in public; 3. how much time one really has in his hands; 4. respecting other people, getting up for elderly/pregnant; 5. thinking about why things are the way they are, and obviously there is a lot more one can learn just from a single subway ride.
Today I followed my own advice: What can we learn from this (being on the subway)?
Looking at it from a "out of the box" perspective, I literally took myself out of the train onto the street we were traveling under. I thought: WOW! This is amazing!!! What was so amazing?
The Subway is exactly like the Spiritual World! EXACTLY.
A tourist not knowing about the Subway comes to NY. He sees all these people coming out of the ground all over NYC. He asks what is this? And after learning about the Subway and the MetroCard and the Trains, etc. he discovers another world not seen to the naked eye. This is the Olam HaRuchani (Spiritual World) that everyone has trouble in feeling. This is the Jew who is a Chozer B'Tshuva, he finally realizes there is another world I have never seen, AND ITS BEEN IN FRONT OF MY EYES MY WHOLE LIFE! A Jew without Mitzvot, without G-d, without the Torah, without thinking, without a Rabbi, is a Jew who is lost. PERIOD.
When we live in a world that revolves around ME and that is just whatever I believe and without G-d (Hashem Yerachem) we literally live in a NYC without a Subway (oxymoron). The Olam HaRuchani is right in front of our eyes, everyday, every second. And their are trains to hop on to make life so much easier! We need to step out of our tiny "intellectual"-selves (this is mussar for me also obviously) and realize that the only way to really be Jewish is to go against nature, to be with G-d. It is not natural for a Subway to exist. It is simply against everything. The same thing goes for the Olam HaRuchani and implementing it to become THE world we live in.

B'H we will have the zchut to WANT to have the Emunah that Hashem is running the show and that we all have a potential we need to reach. BH we'll realize we can't run away from G-d.
