A CLD Reader Responds:

"Hi,
I read the CLD and very much enjoy it.
However, I was surprised by the "notice to the public post" - NOT the CLD post #188. Why are you apologizing for stating the truth?
When a Jew gets OFFENDED from Divrei Torah -- it's because their neshama is recognizing the truth, but their guf and yetzer hara might not want to accept it yet. An apology makes them think that their guf was right.

I'm not sure if you've ever heard Rabbi Yossi Mizrachi speak, but he's a very powerful speaker, and he gives a lot of mussar. Many Rabbis speak softy and some barely even give mussar -- they tell stories and nice, sweet statements. I often left Rabbi Mizrachi's speeches feeling guilty or in need of doing more teshuva.
I went to a shiur by Rabbi Yosef Mizrachi around Elul time. At one point during the shiur, he said something amazing that I don't think I'll ever forget. The paraphrased version: "don't you think I know I'm hard on people? Don't you think I know that many of you leave my shiurim feeling like you have to do teshuva? The only reason I do that is because even though everyone loves inspiring stories and sweet positive divrei Torah, those aren't usually what people remember when they leave a shiur. That's not usually what makes people change. If you ask them in 3 months what that shiur was about, they might not remember. But if it was a shiur with something that shook them or scared them - trust me - they will remember!"
Now, obviously, I'm not saying that all of Torah should be associated with guilt and tochcha - chas v'shalom! Just that ocassionally, it definitely is necessary to awaken klal Yisrael.

Just some food for thought."
