CLD #199

Famous picture of Belshatzar during the party
with a hand from shamayim writing on the wall his
upcoming death because of the use of the Kelim of the
Holy Beit HaMikdash!!!
The next pasuk in Megillat Ester speaks about some details of the party discussed in the psukim beforehand. One of the details in the pasuk speaks about  the actual kelim used in the party to drink wine and eat food. The pasuk states "Drinks were served in golden vessels, vessels of assorted design, and the royal wine was in abundance as befitting the king" (Chabad.org).  The Gemara HaKdosha brings this pasuk to explain the story in the book from Ktuvim: Daniel where the King of Bavel before the time of Achashverosh, Belshatzar, used the same kelim and was taken from this world by the Hand of Hashem. What were these kelim (that Achashverosh also used)? The same kelim (vessels) from the Beit HaMikdash that were used for the korbanot and the holy mitzvot they had to fulfill. Someone may ask how come Achashverosh was not scared to use these kelim knowing that king Belshatzar used them and was killed because of it. Well if one sees the sequence of events, they see that Achashverosh calculated that the Galut promised to the Yehudim 70 years back incorrectly, therefore Hashem "gave up" on us and Achashverosh could really rule without fear of G-d stepping in (as we know He did later :D). Both Rashi and the Gemara HaKdosha bring in an explanation of the term "VeYen Malchut Rav," or And the Kingdom's wine was many. Rashi and the Gemara both say that the wine that was given to each guest was older in age than the guest himself.
We learn from this that we always need to ask Hashem for the impossible. If we think we are at the lowest of the low and there is absolutely no chance for us to do tshuva (which is NEVER the case), then we need to ask Hashem for help to do tshuva. Just like it does not make sense to imagine that there were bottles of wine that were older than all the guests in the Achashverosh's party, so too one who is a complete Rasha who follow's his body's desires and simply does Chata'aim all day and still CAN DO TSHUVA!

B'H we'll have the zchut to have a true SHABAT KODESH and we will DO ONEG SHABAT, because if you don't put any effort into Shabat then of course you are not doing  Shabat!

Shabat Shalom, always with a smile :D.
